How Much Does an MOT and Service Cost in the UK?
MOT tests and services are very different things, but all cars need them at some point. MOT tests are an annual requirement for all cars aged three years or older, while servicing typically takes place once or twice a year, depending on the vehicle and how many miles you cover in it.
But how much can you expect to pay for each job? Here at Vital Vehicle Care, we work on all makes and models of cars, from Ford to Ferrari – and in this article, we’re going to take a closer look at pricing for these common jobs.
MOT tests
The price of MOT tests varies depending on which vehicle you have. Cars and vans that fall into Class 4 are a little cheaper to test than heavier commercial vehicles in Class 7, although there’s not much in it.
We charge £44.95 for a Class 4 test and £49.95 for a Class 7 one. Not sure which class your vehicle falls into? You can check on the Government website, or feel free to get in touch with our team if you can’t work it out.
Car servicing
Servicing isn’t quite so simple. Because it involves replacing parts of the vehicle (like the air filter, oil filter, spark plugs or glow plugs, etc), the cost of the job varies depending on how expensive these parts are.
And that’s not the only determining factor: some vehicles are harder and more time-consuming to service than others because of the way they’ve been designed. Larger vehicles tend to have larger engines with more cylinders, too – that means more spark plugs are needed and, in most cases, more oil.
With that said, if you’re looking for a ballpark figure, an interim service is generally in the £80-£100 range. For a full service, you can expect to pay in the region of £200 and up, depending on the vehicle you drive.
